Locke on the Propria of Body

چکیده
Seth Pringle-Pattison (233n1) observed that Locke " teaches a twofold mystery—in the first place, of the essence ('for the powers or qualities that are observable by us are not the real essence of that substance, but depend upon it or flow from it'), and in the second place, of the substance itself ('Besides, a man has no idea of substance in general, nor knows what substance is in itself.' Bk. II.31.13). " In this paper, I'll explain the relation between the two mysteries. Our Rosetta Stone is Locke's argument that we understand body and spirit equally well since we are ignorant of their underlying substances but we " have distinct clear Ideas of two primary Qualities, or Properties " (2.23.30) of each. I'll show that he is working with a restricted notion of primary quality in this passage, but one that demonstrably falls under the kind defined in his chapter on primary and secondary qualities. According to Locke, the fundamental primary qualities of bodies flow from corporeal substances and the determinations of these fundamental qualities constitute real essences. Locke's discussion can't be understood without understanding the relevant scholastic background. In the first half of my paper, I'll explain his argument as an idiosyncratic

Calretinin Immunohistochemistery: An Aid in the Diagnosis of Hirschsprung’s Disease
Objective(s) Definite diagnosis of Hirschsprung’s disease (HD) is based on histopathological study, but there are limitations associated with standard histology and histochemistry in this regard. The aim of this study was to investigate calretinin immunostaining patterns in both ganglionic and aganglionic HD intestinal specimens and to compare them with control specimens. Materials and Method...
متن کاملRussell Body Gastritis: an Unusually Presentation of the Chronic Gastritis
Russell body gastritis is a rare form of chronic gastritis. It is characterized by the invasion of lamina propria by plasma cells that included eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusion. In the literature, most of the cases are associated with Helicobacter pylori. Russell body gastritis and Helicobacter pylori infection are generally seen together incidentally. We report here two cases of Russell body...

Background: Male infertility is a widespread problem and increased number of mast cells-induced by some drugs like sulpiride atipycal antipsychotic drug, ara described in the testis of males, exhibiting impaired sper-matogenesis and fertility disorders. In this study number of mast cells and sertoli cells, thickness of seminiferous tubule’s lamina propria and sperm concentration and viability i...
متن کاملAntigenic Profile of Muscularis Mucosae and Muscularis Propria of the Urinary Bladder
Background: Differentiation between the muscularis mucosae (MM) and muscularispropria (MP) of the bladder remains challenging. Objective: To identify MM- and MP-specific antigens that could be of potential value for staging of urothelialcarcinomain a pilot study. Method: The expression of 12 protein antigens in 11 human bladder specimens was examined. There were 5 post radical cystectomy specim...
متن کاملProteolytic degradation of intestinal mucosal extracellular matrix after lamina propria T cell activation.
BACKGROUND Proteoglycans, consisting of glycosaminoglycan (GAG) side chains covalently linked to a protein core, are a major component of the extracellular matrix of the intestinal lamina propria. AIMS This study investigated the effects of lamina propria T cell activation on the proteoglycan component of the matrix. METHODS The high degree of sulphation of GAGs means that they are polyanio...
